Chief Estimator

SNR Construction is a newly founded and quickly growing general contracting firm based out of Winnipeg, MB. Our focus is on the construction of commercial, light industrial, and multi-family buildings. We are also a division of Shindico Realty, one of the largest active private real estate firms in the province.

With over 12 million square feet in our development pipeline, we are expanding our team and have an opening for a Chief Estimator. The successful candidate will be a team player with extensive pre-construction experience in a general contracting environment. This is an opportunity to build an estimating department from the ground up and to lead pre-construction consulting efforts for the planned development of several thousand multi-family units.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Build and lead an estimating department. Develop systems and controls as needed.
• Prepare timely, detailed, and accurate cost plans throughout the pre-construction timeline.
• Solicit bids from subcontractors and suppliers. Review for accuracy and completeness.
• Perform quantity take-offs and estimates for self-performed work.
• Clearly communicate work with project stakeholders.
• Maintain good working relationships with consultants, suppliers, and trade partners.
• Identify new pursuits. Review upcoming tenders, provide recommendations on upcoming bid opportunities.
• Prepare bid packages, lead tender closings.
• Participate in value-engineering design and pricing exercises.
• Prepare preliminary project schedules.
• Identify project risks and prepare mitigation strategies.
• Participate in subcontract negotiations and awards.
• Maintain a living database of preferred suppliers and subtrades.
• Maintain a living database of current market unit rates.
• Explore implementation of technology tools such as AI and workflow automation software to improve our processes.

 

Your qualifications should include:

• Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
• 8+ years of progressively complex estimating experience in a general contracting environment.
• A track record of successful projects.
• A positive reputation and wide professional network in the Winnipeg market.
• Education/training in a construction-related discipline such as civil engineering, construction management, or quantity surveying. Designations such as P.Eng., C.E.T., PQS considered an asset.
• Experience leading and mentoring a team is an asset.
• Proficiency with software such as MS Office/Project/Power, Bluebeam, Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud.
• Familiarity with current MB Trade Definitions, building codes, permitting and inspections.
